De la Lune

This series explores the female archetypes of early 20th century cinema and photography. Whilst my subjects are imagined they reference historical icons and the contradictions they embodied.   It's important to me that they each have the strength and attitude to be active participants in their own portraits. Hence the references to the moon and it’s symbolism of feminine power and intuition. Where they meet our gaze they are challenging us to objectify them, fully conscious of their position in the history of the muse.
